The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification program was launched in 1998 by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The LEED program provides strict criteria for environmental construction.
Given the USGBC’s stated mission to create a “sustainable built environment within a generation,” this Chicago building is only the beginning.
In addition to myriad sustainable practices upon which companies are judged by customers, employees, industry stakeholders and the media, the type of building in which the company “lives” now is in play.
It will be interesting to watch more of these buildings being created through renovation and original construction and how companies communicate this part of their sustainability portfolio.
